NIFF 2008 Opening Night

Newport International Film Festival 2008 is underway! The opening night was graced with the film Man on Wire. This is the story of a young French street performer, who tightrope walked between the World Trade Center towers in 1974. An interesting man, a death defying feat and a wonderful film to open the festival. Phillippe Petit, the tightrope walker, was in attendance and conducted an entertaining Q&A. Engaging, charming and enthusiastic , Monsieur Petit took many questions. The best from a young girl who could not have been older than 11 years old, who asked "how did you feel when you took that first step out on the wire?" The answer was much longer and enthusiastic than this, but he summed up by saying "terrified and elated!" A wonderful start to the next 5 days of film here in scenic Newport, RI. Stay tuned..........

Went to the film festival last night and saw "Frozen River" which was fantastic as well as "B.O.H.I.C.A." which was also very good. If you don't get to the festival, you can put "Frozen River" in your Netflix Queue so you can see it when it comes to DVD. Looking forward to seeing at least six more films over the rest of the festival. Some really fantastic movies this year.
